FIBARK 75th Anniversary Art

I’m delighted to announce that I was chosen by the FIBARK committee to create a special work of art for this year’s 75th anniversary event. FIBARK (First in Boating on the Arkansas) was the first whitewater boat race in the U.S. and the tradition is still alive today.

I’m a huge fan – so when FIBARK president Lindsay Sutton-Stephens and board member Miles Cottom approached me about creating a painting for the 75th annual event, of course I said yes.  I explored the concept awhile, creating several paintings of the Arkansas River, the skilled kayakers who paddle it, and the sheer force of the water, all of which inspire me. Though I’m not experienced, I absolutely love any chance I get to paddle the river (I keep a wetsuit at my studio for when friends have an extra spot in a boat.) The Arkansas River is magical and forceful. It takes you on a sometimes fast-paced journey through beautiful canyons with some challenges along the way.

This painting is the poster art for this year’s event. The original will be auctioned at the kickoff party and the money raised will support some wonderful projects, including boating education in Salida. I’m so honored to be a part of this event in this momentous year.
